EXCEPTIONAL COACHES AND TEAM CULTURE

AVA Magic has been the best experience for our daughter in these formative middle school years — she has grown immensely in confidence, found a warm and welcoming community, and developed as a player with her skills, all thanks to exceptional coaches and the team culture. Watching her grow and thrive in this program has been a great joy.

IMPORTANCE OF PRACTICE, HARD WORK, TEAMWORK AND GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP

Playing with the AVA Magic FH Club has been a fantastic experience for my daughter who joined the U10 team in the spring of 2023. She learned the fundamentals of field hockey and grew to love the game. My daughter's travel teams played at an increased level of competition in both outdoor and indoor field hockey which helped her skills and confidence grow over the past three years, She learned the importance of practice, hard work, teamwork and good sportsmanship along the way. Very grateful to the positive club environment that AVA Magic has built with special shout outs to Coaches Lauren, Sophie, Ashley and Maddie!

INTENTIONAL ABOUT BUILDING FRIENDSHIPS BETWEEN THE PLAYERS

We joined AVA Magic in 2024 and have absolutely loved it. Here are the highlights for us: 1. The Coaches. The coaches are true role models. All are exceptional young women who demonstrate collegiality, mental and physical toughness, and a balance of hard work and fun on the field. I am so glad to have these mentors for my girls. 2. The players. The club draws girls from all over Alexandria and Arlington which means that many schools are represented, from public to private to Catholic schools to homeschool, so the girls have a chance to make new friends outside of their school experience. In our experience, no one school dominates, teams are welcoming, and the coaches are intentional about building friendships between the players from different areas. 3. Low barrier to entry. Living in this area, I have found that if your child has not been playing some sports since practically birth, it is very hard to enter at 9/10 years old, and almost impossible to make a travel team. This club allows beginners at every level and moving up to a travel team is attainable. 4. The little things. My girls love the colors - purple, black, and white, doing crafts at tournaments, decorating themselves with purple glitter or peel-off tattoos before a game, working out to their team's playlist, having a pool party at the end of the season, and many other "little things" that make this club feel like a family.
